Foundations of Math and Pre-Calculus 10

MFMP-10-4S Credits: 4

Prerequisite: Math 9 Recommended for students with a C+ of higher and a strong work ethic.

This academic course introduces students to the mathematical and critical-thinking skills further developed in the Foundations of Mathematics or Pre-Calculus pathways. Topics include; linear functions, systems of linear equations, relations and functions, multiplying and factoring algebraic expressions, roots and powers, trigonometry, arithmetic sequences and series, and finance. Students need to have; a strong understanding of the basics of algebra, a strong foundation/understanding of basic computation skills without the use of a calculator (BEDMAS using numbers 1 to 12), an understanding of operations with fractions, and be able to graph a linear function.

Bridging Math 10

This course is split with Careers 10, with students receiving their Careers 10 graduation credit, while simultaneously receiving math support to prepare for FPC10.

Bridging Math 10 is designed for students who require extra time and support to build the foundational skills required for success in Foundations and Pre-calculus 10 (FPC10). This course is ideal for grade 9 students who missed or struggled with key concepts and want to pursue FPC10. Students do not receive a math credit for this course, but instead, review math skills from grade 9 and explore new math concepts at a slower pace, with no formal assessment. Note: This course is offered during Term 1.
