Career Preparation provides opportunities for students to participate in a work-based learning experience that combines classroom instruction with business and industry employment experiences. The goal is to prepare students with a variety of skills for a changing workplace. Career preparation is relevant and rigorous, supports student attainment of academic standards, and effectively prepares students for college and career success. This comparison highlights the broader, more generalized Career Preparation General course versus the structured, pathway-focused nature of the Career Preparation for Program of Study. For both, students are enrolled in a single-period course for direct instruction and allowed up to two Career Prep Off Campus periods for the purpose of work-based learning.

Career preparation is relevant and rigorous, supports student attainment of academic standards, and effectively prepares students for college and career success.

Many of the double-block (two-period) advanced CTE courses could be replaced with a single-block (single-period) option in the case of scheduling conflicts or limitations. Career and Technical Education Project-Based Capstone is a course designed for students to develop and enhance essential skills while investigating real-world problems, issues, or interests. Students work independently or collaboratively with others within or across career clusters or programs of study. Students partner with mentor(s) or advisor(s) to develop a project. Students conduct research, compile findings, implement project activities appropriate to student contribution, and present their work to a relevant audience that may include industry experts.
Students may engage in off-campus work-based learning experiences and work with the instructor to arrange logistics.

Scientific Research and Design allows students to conduct laboratory investigations and fieldwork, use scientific methods during investigations, and make informed decisions using critical thinking and problem solving. The student actively formulates a problem related to science, designs the research and procedures to be used, and plans a final product that will involve a formal presentation to representatives of the scientific community.
This course is an approved science course and can count towards a graduation requirement.
