The Digital Communications: Audio/Video Production Program of Study explores all aspects of the production process, including writing, filming and editing. Students will be exposed to a wide range of media genres such as podcasting, film-making, broadcast journalism and other on-line content creation. Work created by students will be shared and published on a variety of platforms, including both on and off campus. Students should be creative problem solvers, self-motivated, and task-oriented. Those in upper level classes will be expected to produce content outside of regular school hours.

Work-Based Learning opportunities may include:
Internship - gain hands-on experience by interning within a marketing/media department with a local organization, production company, or broadcast station (note: Leander ISD hires students annually for the Video Production Crew at Bible, Gupton, and Monroe stadiums)
Job Shadow - spend a day or more observing a camera operator, editor, sound engineer, director or producer
School-Based Enterprise - participate in campus broadcast program or take on A/V projects for your school or local community
Volunteer - volunteer to support A/V set-up, live-streaming, sound recording, lighting, etc. for local organizations and events; consider schools, religious organizations, theatre/performing arts centers, or local festivals/concerts
Competitions - while not direct work experiences, participating in SkillsUSA competitions can involve development of practical skills and simulated real-world scenarios (ex: Digital Cinema Production)
Mentorship - seek out mentorship from professionals for feedback/guidance as you develop your portfolio of projects
Field Trips and Guest Speakers - gain understanding of a variety of career paths and insight into the industry from professionals
