The Cybersecurity Program of Study includes the occupations and educational opportunities related to planning, implementing, upgrading, or monitoring security measure for the protection of computer networks and information. This program of study may also include exploration into responding to computer security breaches and virus and administering network security measures.

StartSafe: Preparing for Work-Based Learning
Work-Based Learning opportunities may include:
Internship - gain experience by interning with agencies like the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the National Security Agency (NSA), which offer paid and unpaid internships for high school students (often 16 and older) to work on real cybersecurity projects or with a local IT department
Job Shadow - spend a day or more observing cybersecurity professionals such as security analysts, network administrators, or incident responders
Industry Project - work on capstone projects or ongoing assignments that involve developing security plans for fictional companies, analyzing real-world security breaches (case studies), or designing secure network architectures
Competitions - while not direct work experiences, participating in hackathons can involve development of practical skills and simulated real-world scenarios
Field Trips and Guest Speakers - gain understanding of a variety of career paths and insight into the industry from professionals
While most of these course opportunities don't apply to Program of Study completion, some may. Students are advised to consider them to strengthen preparation.
