The Architectural Drafting and Design: Architecture Program of Study explores the occupations and educational opportunities associated with developing, engineering, and designing building structures and facilities. This program of study may also include exploration into collecting and interpreting geographic information, researching and preparing maps, and interior design.

Work-Based Learning opportunities may include:
Internship - gain hands-on experience by interning with a local architect, architectural drafter, or construction project manager
Job Shadow - spend a day or more observing a career in architecture such as a civil engineer, urban planner, or landscape architect
Service Learning Project - apply your knowledge and skills by volunteering for a local homes tour (such as Austin NARI, Austin AIA, Austin HBA), for organizations like Habitat for Humanity, or by developing your own project to support your local community
Competitions - while not direct work experiences, participating in SkillsUSA competitions can involve development of practical skills and simulated real-world scenarios (ex: Architectural Drafting competition)
Mentorship - seek out mentorship from professionals for feedback/guidance as you develop your portfolio; consider participating in the Austin ACE Mentor Program
Field Trips and Guest Speakers - gain understanding of a variety of career paths and insight into the industry from professionals
While most of these course opportunities don't apply to Program of Study completion, some may. Students are advised to consider them to strengthen preparation.
