EXPLORE CTE

All Leander ISD students have the opportunity to enroll in Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses along with their traditional core academic courses. CTE courses are designed to provide authentic learning experiences through academically rigorous and industry aligned curriculum. The goal is for students to create a balanced four-year plan that includes the best of both academic and CTE courses.

Students enrolled in certain CTE courses have the opportunity to participate in a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) appropriate to the course in which they are enrolled. CTSOs promote leadership development, job skill training, and can provide scholarship opportunities. Students have the opportunity to reach advanced level CTE courses to increase the rigor of their learning and complete a CTE program of study sequence for an endorsement and/or earn recognized industry certifications.

TEACHER OF THE MONTH

Amy Lovelace, Cedar Park High School

We're proud to recognize Amy Lovelace, Engineering teacher and RoboLobos coach at Cedar Park High School, as this month's CTE Teacher Spotlight!

Mrs. Lovelace has helped build Cedar Park's robotics program into a place where students put engineering concepts into action through designing, building, programming and competing. Under her leadership, RoboLobos teams have found repeated success at the state level. Just as importantly, students learn how to problem-solve, collaborate and keep working when a design doesn't perform the way they expected.

"Amy's dedication to our robotics program and to her students is evident in everything she does," CPHS CTE department head Anthony Garcia said. "The success our RoboLobos have had at the state level is exciting, but what stands out most is the time and energy she invests in helping students grow as engineers, teammates and problem-solvers."

From long hours preparing robots for competition to celebrating students on the state stage, Mrs. Lovelace continues to create meaningful, hands-on experiences that prepare students for what comes next.

PARTNER THE MONTH

Industry Partner of the Month: NOV

We're proud to recognize NOV as this month's CTE Industry Partner of the Month for supporting Leander ISD students interested in engineering and providing opportunities to explore the industry firsthand.

As part of Leander ISD's COOL Days program, NOV Surface Engineering has welcomed students for career exploration experiences that give them an inside look at engineering, workplace culture and careers in the energy industry. Students tour the facility, learn about different areas of the company's operations and connect directly with industry professionals.

Vandegrift High School alumna Avery Teitelman visited NOV last year and shared how the experience helped broaden her perspective on engineering.

"I wanted to get hands-on experience and know what I should expect in a day-to-day," Teitelman said in an interview with the Vandegrift Voice. "It was cool because it's a different aspect of engineering than I'm interested in, so I got to explore a different industry too."

Experiences like these allow students to see how classroom concepts are applied in the workplace while exposing them to career paths they may not have considered before.
