🔍 Step 1: Check Your Total Absences
Log In: Sign into your PowerSchool student portal using your school email and password.
Find the "Attendance" Tab: Look for a sidebar or a menu icon. Click on Attendance.
Click the Total Number: To see the details, click directly on the total number of absences listed for your class. This will open a list of specific dates so you can see exactly which days are marked as Unexcused or Recovered.
Identify "Unexcused" Absences: These are the ones that count against you. To keep it simple: This is anything that is not a field trip, college visit day, or medical homebound. This means even doctor's notes and parent notes are unexcused and need to be counted towards the hours you owe.
📉 Step 2: Do the Math
You are allowed a certain number of absences before you risk losing credit for a class. Here are the limits you need to know:
1-Credit Course: You are allowed 5 days maximum.
.5-Credit Course: You are allowed 3 days maximum.
The Recovery Formula:
Use this simple calculation to see how many days you need to make up:
Total Unexcused Absences - The Limit (5 or 3) = Hours to Recover
Example: If you have 9 absences in a 1-credit course, you need to recover 4 days (9 - 5 = 4).
🛠️ Step 3: Start the Recovery Process
Once you know how many days you need to make up, it’s time to take action:
Seat Time Recovery: Look for "Saturday School" or after-school sessions. This is where you stay for a set amount of time to recover your absences.
Check Your Progress: Once you have finished your time, check your portal again by clicking the total number of absences. If the time has been successfully recovered, the code for that date will change to SC-REC (for Recovered).
Quick Reminder: Even if you have an "A" in a class, you can still lose the credit if your absences stay over the limit. Check your portal today so you can stay ahead of the game!
Pro Tip: Don't wait until it's too late!
