Changing Environments
Paleolithic Peoples' First Steps That Transformed Our WorldÂ
Drought
100,000 years East Africa experiences a major drought
Lack of water, plants, and animals to hunt caused them to leave Africa for better climates and food resources
Migration
When rivers and lakes began to shrink, or disappear, early humans began to migrate out of Africa for survival
They followed animals (a food source) to new lands where water was available
About 10,000 Paleolithic people living in East Africa left their homeland
Early Technology
Early Homo sapiens used a hard stone called flint to make sharp tools
Early humans began making tools out of stone
They used these tools to kill animals
They used tools to scrape, cut, and shape wood, stone, and animals (animal parts, furs, etc.)
Advanced Technology
Early Humans evolved and their tools became more advanced
They made early fishhooks out of animal bone
They also made sewing needles out of ivory (animal tusks)
These advancements allowed these early humans to survive and thrive in new environments (from arctic to deserts)
