Dear Brown School Family,
Excessive screen time can negatively impact a child's development, affecting sleep, physical activity, social skills, and attention span. It's crucial to manage technology use by setting limits, creating screen-free zones, and actively engaging with children during screen time to ensure healthy digital habits are formed. This includes discussing online safety and appropriate content based on age.
Different age groups require different screen time limits, with younger children needing significantly less exposure to screens than older kids.
Focus on choosing educational and enriching content when children are on screens.
Designate specific times and places in the home where screens are not allowed, like mealtimes and bedtime.
Utilize parental controls on devices to monitor screen time, restrict access to inappropriate content, and set time limits.
When watching screens together, actively engage with your child, discuss what they are seeing, and ask questions.
The Mayo Clinic has an excellent article about child-appropriate screen time and technology management.
Love,
Dr. Angela

We are not out of the woods on this = please continue to call and voice your opinion against taking away both the partent and teacher vote on SBDM!
This currently has not moved - but if it were to pass it would take your voice away from choosing our JCPS School Board. The Louisville Mayor would appoint all the JCPS Board Members. Call LRS at 800-372-7181 and tell all legislators to vote against taking our voice away.
Want to meet with legislator about the upcoming budget. Protect Our Schools KY is doing a lobby day, tomorrow. You will be given the tools and go in with seasoned people to talk to legislators. Sign up to join us.
The Mental Health Fair is this week! The event will take place Friday on March 13 (3/13) from 9-2. Families are welcome to attend. We will have a good amount of groups attending this year, and I am excited for all of these resources to be available to our students!
