Dear Brown School Family,
We have some exciting news to share with our families. The Jefferson County Public Schools Magnet Program Office has approved an additional 29 seats for incoming sixth graders. This is wonderful news for prospective families and a positive step forward for our middle school, especially as we navigate recent budget reductions.
With more students in sixth grade, we will be able to return to a team-based structure that helps students build strong relationships with teachers and classmates; this model supports both academic success and a smooth transition into middle school. The increased enrollment will also allow us to add another core academic teacher to better support student learning.
As these larger classes move through middle school, we plan to expand the team model into seventh and eighth grades in the coming years. Growing enrollment will also help us gradually restore some elective opportunities that we have had to reduce this year.
We are grateful for the district’s support and feel optimistic about the future of our school and program.
Love,
Dr. Angela

The Ursa Lab no longer has Used Chromebook Chargers available to purchase. We have sold out. If your student loses or breaks their charger moving forward, it will be $25 cash or check to get a Chromebook Charger replacement. This will be a brand new, never used charger. Please ensure that your child is charging their Chromebook each night. As a reminder, students need to bring their issued Chromebook and charger with them to school every day. If your child is having any issues with their device or charger not working properly please remind them they can visit the Ursa Lab to talk to Drew or Anitra about this. Thanks!
Please click this LINK to view the students and their projects that qualified for the STLP Championships. If you see these students, please congratulate them on their hard work!
Our 31st Annual Black History Program is this Friday, February 27th @ 9:30 AM

However, we invite you to join us on our Brown School Facebook page for the livestreaming of the event.
We have had multiple wrecks in front of the school this year. Two of these were within seconds of a student exiting a vehicle and almost being struck,
JCPS sent a Traffic Coordinator to observe our morning congestion. If there is no room to pull over to the curb before the front door, you may continue the entire block and drop off your child there in a safer manner than having them walk between vehicles.
Here is an excerpt from the report:
JCPS does not have the authority to control or modify driver behavior. J. Graham Brown School is uniquely situated in that it has no campus property beyond the building footprint itself. Given these limitations, I recommend continued documentation and communication to parents outlining the proper drop-off procedures. Specifically, drivers should not turn from the left travel lane directly to the right curb.
The appropriate procedure is to proceed to the end of the school frontage—where no-parking signage supports traffic flow—and discharge passengers in an orderly manner.
The primary contributor to traffic congestion on 1st Street is the practice of front-door curb service, which causes unnecessary lane blockages and vehicle stacking.
On March 7, 2026, JCPS will host a FREE SAT Prep Boot Camp for students. This interactive, in-person session is designed to equip students with strategies, tools, and confidence to perform at their best. I encourage you to share this opportunity widely and support students in registering online.
