Dear Brown School family,
I am so excited to see your student back in school tomorrow - as well as those lovely first day photos on social media!
Some reminders:
Arrival begins at 7:20 AM. For safety reasons, please do not drop your child off earlier than that as we cannot admit them into the building.
If your child will be eating breakfast, please drop them off by 7:30 AM.
If you have not picked up your dismissal tags for your elementary student, you will need to pick those up before our building closes today (4:00 PM).
Have a conversation with your upper school student to clarify exactly where you expect them to be waiting outside during dismissal.
Please pack your patience tomorrow! Dismissal will take us longer the first two weeks of school as new students and families learn our systems.
Have a great evening and we'll see your student in the classroom at 8:00 AM!
Love,
Dr. Angela

This helpful article from Newsweek has five practical steps parents can take right now to prepare for a phone-free school year:
Talk to your child and back the schools up.
Have your child memorize your number and other emergency numbers.
Make proactive plans with your child.
Avoid texting or calling your child during the school day.
Don’t give your child a cell phone in the first place, or switch to a "dumb" phone.

Mayor Greenberg announced this week that a second measles case has been confirmed in Jefferson County. According to Dr. Kris Bryant, pediatric infectious disease specialist and associate medical director for the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness, the second case is a known contact of the first and has been in quarantine since their exposure.
While measles was declared eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, outbreaks can and do still occur from unvaccinated travelers or individual. Measles is one of the most contagious diseases, and it can quickly spread among those who are unvaccinated.
Protect yourself and your family
The good news is that the MMR vaccine is highly effective at preventing infection. Children should receive two doses: the first at 12–15 months and the second between ages 4–6.
If you aren’t sure if you’ve been vaccinated against measles, there are several things you can do:
Ask for your immunization records from the state where you were born. In Kentucky, you can access the Kentucky Immunizations Records portal.
Talk to your healthcare provider about a blood test to measure the level of antibodies in your blood (also known as titers).

Board members greated parents at the Kindergarten Camp, 6th Grade Camp, and Orientation as well as selling spirit wear out of the concession stand.
We also had bubbles to welcome the Kindergartners to Brown School.
We also wanted to thank Matt Davis for providing us some used balls that athletics had in stock for the students to use on the playground. We also had a few new balls to add along with jump ropes and chalk. We have a Amazon Wish List if you are interested in buying items for the playground. We will be expanding it after we get feedback from the teachers. Amazon Wish List.
Friday we treated the Teacher Training Retreat with lunch.

Welcome back, everyone! I look forward to another great school year at the Brown School. If you are interested in my services with your student to start off the school year please reach out to me via the student support form and I will be happy to talk with you and find the best services for your student. I have a lot of fun plans for this upcoming year and look forward to sharing them with you all. Feel free to reach out with any other concerns you may have for your students!
Welcome back! We are so excited to see everyone!
Just a few reminders:
Make sure your child is ready to learn and succeed — 80% of learning is visual! Kentucky law also requires that all entering Headstart/Kindergarten students receive a full eye exam. Need an eye doctor? Click here to find a provider near you.
We have an on-site food pantry if anyone is in need. If you need any school supplies to start the year, let me know. I would be happy to help!
If your student has Medicaid, renewals have started this month! You should receive a notice 30-45 days before your expiration date. If you need to inquire about your renewal date or need any other assistance regarding Medicaid, click here.
Please get in touch with me if you need any assistance with any of these resources. Looking forward to a great year!
The first day of school is August 7 - TOMORROW! Looking forward to seeing and working with your children.
It was so great seeing my students again at the Meet & Greet yesterday and getting to meet some of my new students. The next several days will be a time for students to get to know their teachers and each other.
Back to School Tips
Here are a few tips to help your child get off on the right foot to have a fun and successful school year at the J. Graham Brown School. Here's another good one.
Elementary School Arrival
Our school day starts at 8:00 AM. This means that your child needs to be in the classroom ready to learn before that 8:00 AM bell rings. If your child needs to eat breakfast, please allow extra time for this so that no instructional time is missed.
K-5 students will report to the gym each morning before the bell rings.
Morning arrival and where to sit in the gym for students in K-5. SEATING
Students eating breakfast should go directly to the cafeteria, unless they are Kindergarteners or new to the school. Those kids should report to the gym and let an adult know that they need to be escorted to the cafeteria to eat breakfast.
Teachers pick up students from the gym at 7:50 AM each morning. So, your child should be at school before 7:50 AM each morning or earlier if the child eats breakfast at school.
School ends at 2:40 PM each day. All students should be picked up no later than 3:00 PM each day. If you arrive after 3:00 PM, you will need to park and come to the Welcome Center to pick up your child.
Orientation
Thank you to all the students and families who came out for Brigance testing (Kindergarten only), Kindergarten Camp, Orientation/ Registration, and/or Meet & Greet. Here is the LINK to the Orientation presentation if you missed it. Lots of very helpful information in this presentation, especially if you are new to our school. Check it out!
See you soon! 😀
It has been a blast getting to know so many of you and seeing old faces at our Meet and Greet and registration days.

Students eating breakfast should go directly to the cafeteria. Then they go to gym (before the bell) or to class (after the bell).
Please remind students that they should go to the cafeteria for breakfast first thing when they arrive.
