Dear Brown School Family,
Tomorrow, JCPS leadership will be sharing information with the public regarding proposed staffing reductions and budget cuts that will impact local schools. This proposal is already in the hands of the JCPS Board Members, and it is being considered for approval at the January 20th Board of Education meeting. Principals were asked not to share specific information until tomorrow.
All JCPS schools are facing strong cuts to their staffing, as well as to funding. At this moment, the proposal eliminates 10 positions at our school, many of which are teachers. Additionally, I project that we are being cut at least $100,000 that we use to fund other staffing, software, equipment, curriculum, furniture, etc. I will not know exact figures until we receive our budget in February. Needless to say, there will be some drastic changes to schedules and programmatic offerings available to our students at all levels.
Dr. Yearwood is meeting with principals this evening for a Q&A session that I will be attending. I hope to have more information after tonight that I can share with our PTSA Board at tomorrow's meeting.
Thank you for your partnership and your support during these challenging times.
Love,
Dr. Angela

High School grades are finalized and can be viewed in Infinite Campus. The grades are shared at the end of the academic year with KHEAA so that your student will earn KEES money! We do still have many freshmen without their social security numbers on file at school, they will not receive KEES money if we do not have that number to report it. Please call Rita Myers in the welcome center to report it. You can also give a copy or the number on a piece of paper to your responsible high school age student to turn in. We shred the paper when done and it is only available in an encrypted part of IC that has very restricted access.

All High School students have recently received a Suicide Prevention Lesson. We cover topics such as recognizing warning signs in yourself and others and how to get help for yourself and others. Students indicating they need support will be met with by a member of the student support team based on urgency over the next few days.
Our SBDM Council's next meeting will be Monday, January 26th at 3:00!
