Dear Brown School Family,
As we work together to maintain a healthy and safe environment for all our students, we kindly remind you of a few important guidelines regarding illness and prevention:
Keep Sick Students Home
❤️ Students must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of medication before returning to school.
🧡 If your student has symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, an undiagnosed rash, or other contagious conditions, please keep them home until they are fully recovered.
Practice Good Hygiene
💛 Encourage frequent handwashing with soap and water at home and remind your students to do the same at school. We encourage handwashing as well as the use of additional hand sanitizer.
💚 Remind your student to sneeze or cough into their elbow to prevent the spread of germs.
Prevention Measures
🩵 Reinforce the importance of not sharing food, drinks, or personal items such as hats with others.
💙 Promote healthy habits such as eating nutritious meals, staying hydrated, and getting enough sleep to boost their immune systems.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our school community healthy. Your efforts make a big difference in reducing the spread of illness and ensuring a safe environment for all. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contract our school nurse Marie Kincaid.
Love,
Dr. Angela
The Early Entry to Kindergarten application window is open until April 1, 2026. The deadline for fall testing is Nov 1, 2025, at 3 pm. Applications received beyond that date will be tested in April and May 2026. Students who turn 5 between August 2nd and October 31, 2026, can petition for early entry to kindergarten.
Middle School Chess is starting soon! We need gently used Chess sets for practice. If you have a set to donate, please send it to Dr. Kat in room 328. Thanks!
Are you interested in the Middle School Chess Team? There will be an informational meeting on 10/9 from 3-3:30 in room 328. A letter explaining matches and practice times will be available at the meeting.
Parents of high school students, please watch for invoices on MySchoolBucks that should be posting this Friday or early next week at the latest. Once we have received your payment for your child's AP Tests we will place their orders. Fee waiver students do not have to pay for their tests, unless they order a test and then do not take it. College Board charges ALL families $40 no-show fee if kids order a test and don't take it. The deadline to pay for AP tests is October 31st. If invoices are not paid by this deadline, we will not be able to order your child an AP test. Please reach out to Sarah with questions at sarah.yost@jefferson.kyschools.us
With Halloween fast approaching, many students will want to wear costumes on October 31st to school. Please keep in mind our Student Dress Policy to ensure that the costume meets the guidelines for regular school attire. Please avoid toy weapons, masks, excessive fake blood, gore, and full face paint. Avoid any costumes that may attempt to represent a group or population of people/culture, marginalize a group or culture, or focus on stereotypes. Also, avoid costumes that are really scary, because we do have very young students in our building. If you have any questions about the appropriateness of a costume, please ask an assistant principal or counselor!

The Brown PTSA Fall Festival Street Fair is the main fundraiser for Brown PTSA. This helps provide funding for events we do during the year. This includes family nights, teacher appreciation week, Kentucky Kids Day, and other programming . This does not only provide funding for the PTSA events but also for the many school groups that are running the gaming booths.
We will be shutting down 1st street from Muhammad Ali to Chestnut. We will have a stage that will showcase some of the student groups. There will be music in between student performances. There will be food trucks to enjoy for dinner and games for all ages to play. We will also have a silent auction and a raffle inside.
It will be chaotic fun for everyone. Bring your chairs and hang out with the Brown School Family.
