Dear Brown School Family,
I want to share an important update regarding our proposed budget for the upcoming school year. Our Budget Committee has worked thoughtfully and diligently over the past several weeks to develop a plan that reflects both the fiscal realities we are facing and our continued commitment to students. This proposed budget will be presented to our SBDM Council for approval on Monday.
Like schools across Jefferson County Public Schools, we have had to make difficult decisions in response to district reductions. At the district level, positions eliminated at our school include two Academic Instructional Coaches, an Ordering and Receiving Clerk, and a School Safety Administrator. Additionally, our proposed budget includes the elimination of five teaching positions: Middle School English, High School English, Middle School Math, Spanish, and Visual Art; this is due to the elimination of the Middle School Teams funding at the district level. We will also eliminate an Attendance Clerk position and a Library Clerk position due to the reduction of Equity funds.
At the same time, we were able to maintain all other staffing positions, which is a significant accomplishment in this budget climate. We are also adding a Middle School Science/Social Studies teacher to lessen the impact of reductions on our middle school.
Even amid reductions, our proposed school budget intentionally invests in key priorities that support innovation, safety, academics, and the student experience. This budget reflects our commitment to balancing responsible stewardship with meaningful investment. We have prioritized student safety, core academic programming, innovation, athletics, literacy, and enrichment opportunities while preserving as many positions as possible.
I am deeply grateful to the members of the Budget Committee for their thoughtful collaboration and to our entire school community for your resilience and shared focus on what matters most: our students. While these decisions are not easy, this proposal positions us to move forward with clarity, stability, and purpose.
If you have questions, feedback, or comments about the proposed budget, you are welcome to attend the SBDM Council meeting. The meeting will take place at 4:00 PM on Monday in the Student Support Center. We value transparency and shared leadership, and we welcome your engagement as the Council reviews and considers approval of the proposal. You can find the tentative agenda HERE. Your voice and perspective are always important as we make decisions that impact our school community. Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to our school.
Love,
Dr. Angela
