Dear Brown School Family,
I want to extend a special congratulations to our students who were accepted to summer honors programs. Opportunities like this don't come easily, and this speaks volumes about their character, potential, and commitment to growth.
I am actually an alumni of both Governor's Scholars Program and Governor's School for the Arts (GSP, '90, WKU; GSA - Vocal Music, '89, Bellarmine), so I'm deeply aware of the hard work, dedication, and passion that it takes to gain acceptance. Participation in these programs were life changing for me, especially since I came from a home were I would become the first person to graduate from high school and from college.
I am so proud of these students for stepping up, standing out, and embracing challengings that will stretch their skills and expand their horizons. May they enjoy every moment, make meaningful connections, and know that I am cheering them on every step of the way!

Dear Jefferson County Public Schools Families,Â
As we continue planning for the new school year, we need to know how your child will get to and from school for the 2026-27 school year. The JCPS Transportation Verification (TV) form is now open. Every JCPS family must complete this form letting us know how your child will get to and from school - JCPS bus rider, car rider, walker, or YMCA Childcare Enrichment Program (CEP) student. Note: YMCA CEP registration will open in mid-May.Â
The final day to request bus transportation for the first day of school is June 8, 2026. Eligible bus riders who fill out the Transportation Verification form by June 8, 2026, will be notified of their bus stop location in July via the JCPS Bus Teller. Jefferson County Public SchoolsÂ
We have received funding for our summer camp! We will have a limited number of spots for students to attend an academic summer camp June 8th - 26th for middle/high and June 10th - 26th for elementary at the Brown School. Students may attend one, two, or three weeks from 8 a.m. to noon, and receive instruction in reading and math to help prevent summer slide in grades K-9. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, but families will be responsible for their own transportation.Â
Camp spots will be filled by invitation first, but for any remaining spots, families can put their name on the consideration list here, and will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis. Please reach out to Sarah (6th-9th) or Lisa (K-5th) with questions at sarah.yost@jefferson.kyschools.us or lisa.billings@jefferson.kyschools.us
Reminder: There have been changes to AP testing fees from previous years. For non-fee waiver students, AP tests this year cost $34 and there will not be rebates. If a student orders an AP test and does not take that test, College Board charges families a $40 fee, regardless of fee waiver status. Students will owe $40 for each AP test they ordered but did not take.Â
New Info: Next year, the Kentucky state legislature voted to discontinue the subsidy for AP tests. AP exams will now cost the full amount, which varies per test, but will likely be closer to $100 per test. Fee waiver families will still pay $0 for the intial ordering. The $40 no-take fee will still apply to all families.
Lunches During AP Exams: If students are taking AP exams during their lunch time, they have either been scheduled for an early lunch or we have ordered a sack lunch to deliver to them. Of course they can always bring their own lunch, although they cannot eat during the AP exam. Students can see their lunch plan for each AP exam in their "Class of..." Google Classroom, along with their proctors, room numbers, dates and times for all AP exams.
We are looking for parent volunteers to help with setup and cleanup for Prom 2026 on May 9th, 2026, at the Sawyer Hayes Community Center. Set up will be 5 pm - 7 pm and clean up will be 11 pm -12 am.
All decorations and supplies will be providedâwe simply need helping hands to make the evening a success for our students. Any time and assistance you can give would be greatly appreciated.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Dr. Kat (kathleen.mattingly@jefferson.kyschools.us)
Dear Brown School Families,
In case you missed our first announcement â the Brown School is going to Europe in 2028, and Dr. Kat is hosting a virtual info session where enrollment will open. This is a rare opportunity for students to build independence, global awareness, and lifelong memories with their classmates. The trip is open to current 5th-10th grade students.
The trip is called The Alps and the Mediterranean Coast, and the itinerary speaks for itself:
Switzerland â Walk the historic streets of Lucerne, cruise Lake Lucerne, and ride to the top of a Swiss mountain. Then cap the evening with a Swiss folklore dinner complete with yodeling, Alpine horn blowing, and fondue.
Italy â Travel through the stunning Lake Como region before arriving in Cinque Terre, where students will explore five colorful seaside villages by train.
Monaco & the French Riviera â Tour the Prince's Palace and Monaco Cathedral, then stroll Nice's famous Promenade des Anglais and the charming Vieille Ville.
Spain â Take in La Sagrada FamĂlia, Park GĂŒell, and La Pedrera â then experience an unforgettable flamenco performance to close out the trip.
We're hosting a virtual info session to answer all of your questions â from the full itinerary to payment plans.Â

Will our students get their report done or will Zeus and company smite them?! Snag a ticket to find out!

Communication- If your child is playing a sport at Brown, it is critical that both you and your athlete (if they have a phone) have an Eventlink account and follow your team calendars. Your "Contact Points" need to be your phone number and email. This is where you will check your schedule and receive announcements (cancellations, changes, etc). If a coach needs to be contacted, students can email the coach (go to www.brownbearsathletics.com and click on Athletic Department) or the athlete can ask their parent to call or text the coach. If you need the coaches phone numbers, please email them or me and I will email it to you.  To join our Eventlink for team announcements and calendars please open these INSTRUCTIONS. Please make sure you search for the "J. Graham Brown School." This is how you will receive messages from coaches and game updates. Practice and game schedules can also be found on www.brownbearsathletics.com

Spring Sports Fees Due Now- Fees that are not paid will be put as an obligation on Myschoolbucks next week. This spring these are required to be paid and fee waiver status does not apply to after school activities. If you would like to bring a cash or check, have your athlete bring it to the athletic director office of the Welcome Center. Please pay as soon as possible. Â Spring Sports Fees Links
Social Media Assistance- Coach's and AD's would love your assistance in getting photos and results from games so that we can post them on Instagram. Most of our sports posts are on Instagram because our students are on it and it does not take up too much of the school's Facebook page. If you have a good photo from a game, meet or match or a result or individual accomplishment, please email it to an AD.Â

Moveathon is the PTSAâs largest annual fundraiserâbringing our school community together to support student growth through movement, wellness, and fun. This year, we are working toward a fundraising goal of $15,000 to support projects and resources that directly enhance student life both inside and outside the classroom.
Funds raised will help support campus improvements such as beautification efforts, completion of the Peace Park walkway, landscaping, and exterior enhancements to the Brown School. In light of recent JCPS budget reductions, these funds are especially critical to replacing essential classroom and science lab tables, as well as providing updated equipment and furniture that support student learning.
Beyond facilities, Moveathon also helps fund a wide range of enrichment opportunitiesâfrom in-school programming to extracurricular experiencesâensuring all students have access to a well-rounded educational environment.

As we get closer to summer it is more important than ever to keep your student's mental health in mind. School based services are not available during the summer, and as such it is important to start looking for outside providers early to get on their calendars. If you are interested in mental health services for your student outside of the school setting, we are able to make referrals for you through Care Solace. If you are interested in my services with your student to start off the school year please reach out to me via the student support form and I will be happy to talk with you and find the best services for your student.Â
