Starfish is an early alert tool that is accessed through Moodle to support student academic success at Immaculata. Please note: You do NOT have to be a Moodle user to use Starfish.
Through Starfish, faculty can inform students of their academic performance within a course and connect student to appropriate support resources.
Features include:
The Starfish Faculty User Guide can be found on MyIU under Faculty Resources .
At the beginning of the term:
In an effort to facilitate reporting of students who do not attend the first two weeks of classes, we will be using our Starfish system. This will replace the practice of sending emails to the registrar for students who appear on your list but do not show in class. We hope that this will ease your reporting and facilitate student outreach. You will receive the surveys for the first and second week of classes.
Should any students appear in your class but are not on your list, please direct them to report to the Business Office/Registrar.
Please note that as of Fall 2019, CAPS students, as well as CUS students, are included in Starfish. Therefore, your Starfish list of students should match the Moodle list, making reporting student issues much easier for you. Staff from both colleges with follow up with the students.
You will be asked to indicate attendance concerns for any student who appears on the list. A space is provided for adding comments about your concern. Please note that the student will also see the comment you write when they receive the automated email.
If you have no concerns, please click "Submit" as the default is "no concerns". Note that Starfish will continue to send reminders until you click "Submit" for all of your surveys. In addition, some courses that may start later in the semester may have inadvertently been included in the survey. Therefore, if you teach a course that has not yet begun, please open the survey and click "Submit." We will note that the course has not yet started.
You will receive the survey for the first week of classes and it will close the end of that week. The survey for the second week of classes will deploy the following week with a similar window to close. Please note: the system will also notify your students about your concern.
Thank you, in advance, for reporting your attendance concerns. This allows us to track that students are where they are supposed to be.
