For all College of Adult Professional Studies (CAPS) courses facilitated online, the One Shell Model ensures that each semester's course shells are populated with all required course content at the time the courses are created/made visible to faculty in Moodle.
Any faculty member teaching a One Shell Model online course is required to deliver the course content as designed: this ensures a consistent experience for students across course sections and instructional modes (online or face-to-face). That said, the faculty has the discretion to enhance the course using additional resources, articles, videos, or experience to improve the student learning.
Before making the course visible to students, facilitators should plan to review carefully all of the loaded course materials. In this way, they will be prepared to use any provided resources, as needed, to support student learning. Also note: While designed specifically for instructors delivering the course content in the classroom, the Facilitator Course Overview (FCO) available, facilitators might also be a resource for you as you consider how best to manage projects, discussions, and course activities, even in the online environment.
Faculty maintaining an active role in facilitation of online courses is vital to student retention and satisfaction in all online courses. The expectations presented here are a means for achieving consistency across courses, maintaining strong retention rates for Immaculata University degree program participants, and ensuring that all students who participate in online courses receive a worthwhile learning experience.
