Safe Exam Browser is a web browser environment to carry out e-assessments safely. The software turns any computer temporarily into a secure workstation. It controls access to resources like system functions, other websites and applications and prevents unauthorized resources from being used during an exam.
Create a quiz as you normally would
Edit the settings. Scroll down to Extra Restrictions On Attempts and click Show more.
On the dropdown field for Browser Security, select Require the use of Safe Exam Browser
Next, go to Common Module Settings. On the dropdown field for Availability, select Make available but not shown on course page."

To start configuring a SEB file:
WINDOWS: On the search bar on your Windows Task Bar, search for "SEB Configuration Tool" -- see image.
MAC: On the very top left-hand of your screen while you have the Safe Exam Browser click Safe Exam Browser >> Preferences, or press the command key and the comma key simultaneously.
On the Browser Tab, perform the following changes, if necessary:
CHECK the box to Enable Javascipt (a Moodle requirement)
UNCHECK the option to Use SEB without a browser window
On the Config File Tab, perform the following changes, if necessary:
Configure the SEB file, which you'll create, for Starting an Exam
UNCHECK the option to Allow to open preferences window
Create a password (so that your students are forced to take the exam using your configurations)
Click the Save Settings As button and enter a name for your newly created configuration file. (Note: Remember the file location where you save this file, because you will be uploading it to Moodle).
ADDITIONAL NOTES: Feel free to change the other configuration options as you deem necessary. This may require a bit of trial and error on your part.
Go to your course homepage and turn editing on.
Click the Add an Activity or Resource link for the appropriate topic and select File from the list of options.
On the file module's settings page, upload the SEB configuration file you previously saved to the file dropbox.
Navigate to the Appearance section. On the dropdown menu for the Display setting, select Force Download.
Instruct your students to click on this file module and download the file in order to take the exam/quiz.
Consider directing students using the wording on the image to the right.
Once complete, the test will appear as shown below in your course with the Actual Moodle Test hidden to the students, the Downloadable Test will be shown to the students.
NOTE: Neither this application nor other similar browser-blocking technology can prevent your students from using a completely separate device -- such as a phone, tablet, or another computer -- while taking the assigned assessment.
