Course overview - Study Period 5 and 6
During the first half term, study period 5, C7 learners will be studying ‘An Introduction to Shakespeare’. They will explore elements of 3 of Shakespeare’s plays, including A Midsummer Night’s dream, The Tempest and Julius Caesar. They will also look into Shakespeare’s life and times, examining the context behind his writing. Learners will continue to develop their skills of understanding written texts, commenting on and analysing what they read.
During the second half term, study period 6, C7 learners will be studying the topic ‘Myths and Legends.’ Learners will be using famous myths and legends, such as the stories of Beowulf and Icarus, to inspire their own writing in the same style. A continued focus on writing skills, including spelling, punctuation and grammar will also be included in this unit.

Learners will undertake two longer written assessments per half term; a baseline at the start and a summative piece towards the end.
They will also have a variety of shorter formative assessments, including Google Quizzes, Q and A sessions and recall activities.

Learners will receive guidance in a variety of ways. These include marked assessments, reports, verbal feedback, written feedback in books, 1:1 interaction, Google Classroom and whole class feedback.
