Course overview - Study Period 1 and 2
Study Period 1 - Completed in the first half term. Learners will carry out an introduction to History. In this unit learners address the work of a historian, the key concepts and processes that are part of a historians work, they will work as Historians by attempting to solve a historical mystery. They will also carry out their local history study through a case study of Coggeshall through time. The unit finishes with an end of unit assessment.
Study Period 2 - Completed over half term one and two. In this half term learners will also begin the unit ‘Who are the Normans?’. Learners will explore the reasons for why there was a succession crisis in the eleventh century and how William I changed Britain. In this unit there is an emphasis on developing their ability to write like an historian through constructing PEE paragraphs. Learners will also begin to use primary sources to draw their own conclusion. The unit finishes with an end of unit assessment.

Assessment Points:
One end of unit assessment per unit. These assessments will typically include a Google Quiz to test learners' understanding of key terms and historical knowledge. There will also be questions that will allow teachers to assess the quality of written communication.
Guidance:
Learners will receive guidance in a variety of ways. These include marked assessments, reports, feedback in books, 1:1 interaction, Google Classroom and close the gap activities.
