Course overview - Study Period 1 and 2
Autumn Term 1- Where is my place in the world?
During the first half term, learners will start by focussing on the wider world. They will look at continents and oceans before moving in to look at European countries and their capital cities. We then delve deeper into the UK and it’s capital cities with a project that they will present to their peers. Learners will then take a more personal approach to geography, looking at the surrounding area of Coggeshall before completing a fieldwork investigation on how Coggeshall has changed over the last 10 years. The unit aims to provide learners with the key geographical skills they need to thrive.
Autumn Term 2- Exploring the world
During the second half term, learners will be focussing on Zambia, India and Canada. They will explore the locations, and the different climates of the countries. They will then look into the Indian Monsoons and the impacts this has on the country. They also learn about population density, the pros and cons of this and how this can result in living conditions such as squatter settlements in Dhaka. Learners will also research the different biomes within the countries and how animals and humans have adapted to survive. This has a focus on the Canadian Inuits which they will explore through the use of the text ‘The Explorer’s daughter’ and an engaging documentary.
