Course overview
During cohort 7 we run a rotation moving the learners around the different materials with their teacher. This allows us to build our knowledge about their strengths and areas to work on and creates strong, safe working groups.
In Food your child will be focusing on Healthy Eating, using the NHS Eatwell guide as reference. They will learn a variety of life skills along with nutritional information and kitchen health & safety. There will be a selection of recipes that will teach different core skills for example; knife skills, kneading and hob and cooker skills. There is a theory workbook used alongside the practical lessons for learning about kitchen routines and equipment as well as healthy eating.
In Resistant Materials your child will be making a desk organiser that will allow learners to cut and shape timber, together with designing. Your child will develop a good range of practical skills and we hope that these products will give them an insight into creating high quality products that they want to use at home.
In Graphic Products your child will be using a design software package to create a nature inspired clock. We would like your children to see new technologies and understand what is meant by the terms CAD/CAM, it will be cut out on the laser cutter. Your child will develop their sketching skills, finding inspiring imagery to then develop and replicate them onto our computer packages.
