Course overview - Term 2, Half term 1 and 2
During the first half term - half term 1, learners will be studying about where their food comes from. They will begin with looking at what a farm is and what industry farming is a part of. They will also be looking at the impacts of farming on the environment and where their food comes from. They will then spread their focus to looking at farming in other countries where they will create a case study page on Brazil nut farming and have a look at what plantations are and why fairtrade is important for developing countries.
During the second study period - half term 2; learners will look at the weather. They will learn what the difference between weather and climate is, how rainfall occurs and what the different types of rainfall are. They will then complete a geographical enquiry into the climate of the UK where they will use different resources such as climate graphs to help back up their answers. This will be followed by extreme weather events where they will look at hazards around the world and how to mitigate for these.
