Course overview - Study Period 3 and 4
During the first half term, study period 3, learners will combine the skills learned in unit 1 with new skills, whilst reading the story of 'Frankenstein’. They will read a combination of the play by Phillip Pullman, and the original text by Mary Shelley. In this unit, learners will explore the context and background in detail, using this to craft informed personal responses about why Mary Shelley might have written the novel. This will include discussions about genre. During the second half term, study period 4, learners will explore a non-fiction writing topic called ‘Window the World’. Again, this aims to develop learners’ cultural capital by providing opportunities for them to debate current affairs and topics. Learners will read non-fiction writing, including articles, in order to help them argue their point of view. There will be lots of oracy opportunities, as well as opportunities to continue developing their technical accuracy.
