Blakelock’s Dance Team had quite the successful season this past year! Beginning rehearsals in late September, the team learned choreography and meticulously practiced their routines all year, finally seeing all their hard work pay off during the spring competition season.
Their first competition was at Glendale School for the Arts in March, where the team was recognized for excellence and earned many top awards. “Piano Man,” choreographed by Kate Puhlmann and Sierra Park, won the award for Best Student Choreography of the competition, and the dance itself placed 2nd overall in the varsity large group category. The team was also among the top 5 highest scoring schools of the 30+ that attended.

In between competitions, the team had the opportunity to attend the Dream2Dance Charity Showcase at Nelson High School. This event was not judged, instead serving as a buyout fundraiser to raise money for less fortunate kids in dance. Lots of students from Nelson came to watch and support, leading to an empowering and unforgettable experience.
The second and last competition of the season was Strive Dance Challenge in April. All of TAB Dance Team’s groups received first place awards and the team was given the Judge’s Choice Award for Overall Impression. In addition, Sierra was the highest scoring soloist of the event for her self-choreographed solo, “American Pie.”
A very special thank you goes to the coach, Mme. Rudge, for her time, guidance, and support throughout the season. Her unwavering commitment is a huge reason this year was both so fun and so successful. The Blakelock Dance Team is a fun and positive space for dancers to learn and grow, not only as performers but as friends and teammates. If you dance, be sure to check out the team next year!
See you next year, Tigers!
