On the evening of Thursday, December 5th, 2024, T. A. Blakelock’s Music Department held its annual Winter Concert in the Studio Theatre. Amassing a full-house, this year’s concert was filled with amazing performances by students.
To kick off the night, the Symphonic Winds Concert Band opened with the mighty Eye of the Storm by Ryan Meeber, and transitioned into Joy by Frank Ticheli.

After a short intermission, the Jazz Band made their entrance with Hog-Squealin', Rip-Snortin' Belly-Achin' Blues by Michael Sweeney, then played Work Song arranged by Terry White. They ended their part of the performance with Nutcracker Rock arranged by Mike Smukal. Connor Hindle, the soloist, played two fantastic solos during the band’s setlist.
“Connor’s solos were the most awesome solos I’ve ever heard, tear-jerking even. It evoked such emotion in me!” exclaimed grade 12 alto saxophonist, who commented on his peer’s Jazz Band performance.

Switching up the vibe, the student-led Rock Band, “The Graduates,” jammed out to Zombie by The Cranberries, and then closed off with Undercover Martyn by Two Door Cinema Club.
To finish the night, the Wind Ensemble Concert Band started with the light Nihonbashi (Bridge Market in Japanese) from Bookmarks from Japan by Julie Giroux, then a Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song by Samuel Hazo. They concluded with the yearly tradition of playing tunes from the movie Polar Express, conducted by grade 12 student, Kara Wiese.
“I had a lot of fun conducting, practicing a lot was super rewarding in the end. I’m glad I was given this amazing opportunity!” Kara Wiese exuded.
