October was the prime time for TAB’s Music Department to host various fun Halloween events. Starting on the 23rd, the department held its very first monthly cafeteria performance event named the Third Thursday Tunes. All musicians were invited to sign up and showcase a small performance, whether solo or with a group.
October’s setlist included Trebeble, the quirky duet of the pianist, Ryan Shin and melodica-player, Nino Nguyen. The two kicked off the show with their cover of Scarlet Forest by Toby Fox and various tracks from the game Animal Crossing.
Afterwards, AJ Hughes performed a euphonium solo of A Cruel Angel’s Thesis from the anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion. Finally, the Junior Rock Band rocked out to Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. All in all, the event was a success that brought out fantastic energy from the crowd.
The following week, from October 27th to 29th, TAB’s Music Council sold paper slips for students to write small messages to their peers and have them delivered to their first period class on October 31st. Additionally, the recipients could pick a candy from a provided selection.
Furthermore, TAB musicians sold a variety of goods ranging from cookies to banana bread. Amassing a large amount of donated sweets from fellow musicians and parents, these donors put in a huge effort to make the bake sale a success.
To end the spooky celebrations, TAB’s Wind Ensemble Concert Band held a Halloween rehearsal where grade 12 musicians auditioned for the role to conduct various selections from The Polar Express, anticipating the Winter Concert.
Each instrument section of the band coordinated a group costume, showing off their camaraderie to the rest of the ensemble. After a fun-filled day, Nino Nguyen won the chance to conduct at the Winter Concert.
Costumes, costumes, costumes.
