Every year, Blakelock holds a Remembrance Day ceremony in the large gym to honour veterans and those who passed in the First World War. The ceremony this year was nothing short of respectful, solemn, and fitting for the occasion.
At the beginning of the second period, the Grade 11s and 12s were called down to the large gym for the ceremony, and the Grade 9s and 10s halfway through the period. The TAB Wind ensemble played a beautiful, dignified rendition of With Every Sunrise composed by Robert Sheldon. The performance was accompanied by a photo gallery displaying images of Canadian soldiers. The student body was asked to hold its applause and to have a moment of silence once the song was complete.
The Blakelock Remembrance Day ceremony.
Remembrance Day is held on November 11th each year because at 11:00 am, November 11th, 1918, the First World War ended. On the 11th hour, of the 11th month, of the 11th day, an Armistice took effect, signifying an agreement between Germany and the Allies to cease fire. On this day, we remember and honour those who passed away serving in wartime or in military service.
Blakelock’s annual Remembrance Day ceremony continues to remind us about the bravery, dedication, and sacrifice Canadian soldiers have made for our country.
