On Friday, February 28, at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, the Blakelock senior boys and girls hockey teams made history by making it to the finals for the first time. The event had an exceptional turnout as it was a buyout which allowed students to purchase a seat on the school bus to attend the game. Excitement was in the air, the stakes were high, and our Tigers left everything on the ice.
For the boys team, it was a long-awaited game against their opponent Aldershot, playing them for the second time this year. Our Tigers came out with energy and confidence, but as the first period progressed, Aldershot turned the tide, ending the period with a score of 2-1.
The second period brought intensity, but despite Blakelock’s unrelenting efforts, Aldershot continued to score. Just when our Tigers were losing their motivation, Mr. Alchesi, the head coach, passionately gave an intense and inspiring speech, telling the boys to seize the moment.
And seize they did. Our Tigers took that speech to heart, scoring 2 goals. However, the final period proved to be emotional with one player from each team getting ejected from the game. Although the shot counts were equal, the game was not in Blakelock’s favour, with Aldershot scoring 3 more times, securing the game with a final score of 6-3.

On another note, the senior girls faced off against Georgetown in a game that was intense from start to finish and kept fans on the edge of their seats. Unfortunately, our Tigers fell behind in the first period, but they didn’t back down.
As the game progressed, our Tigers were determined, but despite their relentless effort, Georgetown’s lead didn’t budge. The energy in the arena was electric as Blakelock pressed harder.
In the final period, our Tigers weren’t going down without a fight. With just a few minutes left, Georgetown racked up a series of penalties, which allowed Blakelock to score. In the last minutes of the game, our Tigers felt the pressure of the ticking clock. With Georgetown's penalties, and Blakelock’s power play, we scored.
Regrettably, the clock was against our Tigers, and Georgetown’s lead held on until the final buzzer. Despite the 2-1 loss, our Tigers fought neck and neck until the very end.

With over 200 Blakelock students watching and cheering in the stands (some with face paint and signs) our Tigers gave it their all, creating a historic season for Blakelock. This season was just the beginning, and there’s no doubt Blakelock will be back, stronger, and better than ever!
Go Tigers!
