On the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day, during the eleventh month of the year, we recognize the valiant efforts of Canadian soldiers who fought in the war.
T.A. Blakelock holds an assembly every year to commemorate Remembrance Day. We recognize and honour the thousands of soldiers who fought and sacrificed their lives for our country during the war.
Blakelock’s Remembrance Day assembly was held in the large gym, where Grade 9s and 11s were called down throughout the first half of the period, while Grade 10s and 12s were called down the second half. Both gatherings were intimate and personal, as TAB’s Wind Ensemble performed three beautiful pieces: Our Castaways by Julie Giroux, Amazing Grace, and The Last Post by Tom Wade West, to contribute to the ceremony.

The Last Post held particular significance during the performance and back in the war. As the trumpet sounded, it signaled to those who were still out on the field that the fight was finished and that it was safe to take a rest.
A commemorative slideshow with sentimental pictures was also shown, marking the sacrifices that the brave soldiers made. Speakers Asha Hagerman and TL Sutherland told the story of the war, and then recited the popular poem In Flanders Fields by John McCrae.
Remembrance Day remains a solemn celebration to remember the numerous losses of lives and the war efforts of Canadian soldiers. The TAB community continues to put in much effort to pay their respects, as they do annually.
