On Wednesday, December 20, Mr. Petz hosted the second Annual TAB “Just Dance” Charity Dance Off. During lunch break, students had a chance to face off against Mr. Petz and raise funds for the Canadian Wildlife Foundation.
“Just Dance” is a game where a dancer on the screen carries out a series of moves the players have to copy. Players carry controllers that track their movements to determine who danced the most like the dancer on screen. The scores are carried out in points and stars.
The event originated from Mr. Petz’s daughter, who beats him in “Just Dance” more often than not. Composing a list of specific dances, Mr. Petz brought in his Nintendo Switch, and the games began.
An example of a flier for the dance off posted around the school.
When asked about her chances, Emerson Vaughan, a grade 11 student said, “I did not think I was going to beat him. We did the Rasputin dance and I thought I was doing really well. Turns out Mr Petz was doing a lot better. Everybody had fun, and we were all working together, cheering people on trying to beat Mr. Petz.”
Each student had to enter a one dollar donation to compete, with proceeds going to the Canadian Wildlife Foundation. If a student won, Mr. Petz entered a five dollar donation, and the student won a chocolate bar. If Mr. Petz won, students had to participate in the walk of shame.
The famous Rasputin dance.

Unfortunately, not a single student walked out of the competition with a chocolate bar, and everyone had to participate in the walk of shame. Mr. Petz’s undeniable “Just Dance” skills were too hard to beat! This is the second year he’s gone undefeated, which is incredible considering it was founded last year.
“I’m game for a rematch next year. I’ll be right here waiting.” - Mr. Petz
The charity event was successful, and raised 40 dollars for the Canadian Wildlife Foundation. See you at next year's dance off!
