The annual Tabby Awards, organized by Mr. Alchesi, took place on December 2nd in the large gym. Students in Mr. Alchesi’s Grade 11 English class chose an act of Willam Shakespeare’s play Macbeth to adapt into a short film. Each film had a different genre: Sci-Fi, Comedy, Action, Horror, and Murder Mystery.
Each short film was aired in order of acts in front of Ms. Northey and Mr. Winter’s classes. The awards ceremony also included a judging panel consisting of Ms. Northey, Mr. Winter, and Mme. D’Alesio.
“When the cast of Macbeth: The Rise of the King first asked me to make an appearance in their feature film and pretend to be dead on the floor of the health room, I was floored. I never would have anticipated this response. It was truly a moment of impromptu character development and I had to make many critical decisions on the spot,” said Northey when speaking about her experience in the Tabby Awards.
As well as the judge panel, student attendees were also able to vote for who they thought should win each award. Award categories were made up of the following:
Best Film, won by: The Rise of the King
Best Macbeth, won by: Julia Sheppard
Best Editing, won by: The Rise of the King
Best Audio, won by: Macduff’s Revenge
Best Line, won by: Talia Arieli
Best Actor, won by: Nasser Halawi
Best Actress, won by: Abhi Kaur
Best Guest Appearance, won by: Ms. Northey
Talia Arieli - Best Line Award, Abhi Kaur - Best Actress Award and Julia Sheppard - Best MacBeth Award
A member of TABloid spoke to the winner of the Best Macbeth award, Julia Sheppard. When asked if she anticipated the nomination, she answered,
“I didn’t, but it’s really touching that my group would’ve nominated me for this and, y’know, I feel like my efforts totally reflect on that.”
Overall, the event was a success and each winner was congratulated with their own plastic Tabby award.
