During the week of April 4th, T.A. Blakelock's Library Learning Commons (LLC) hosted an art show in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. The show reflected the diversity of talent that can be found at the school and exhibited the different styles and personalities of our students.
Julia Taylor won first place with her piece "wings". Ben Brimacombe came in second with his book of poetry "Don't Judge Me...I'm Not a Poet".Third place was awarded to Candy Altamirano.

When students donated $2.00 to the Canadian Cancer Society, they were able to vote on their favourite art piece amongst the submissions, which were displayed on different tables in the library. In total, the exhibit earned over $150.00 to go towards cancer research.
The library volunteers were amazed by the number of voters, as the voting box was practically overflowing.
Art submissions and votes were anonymous. That reassured artists that their names would not be released without their permission. This is a really important aspect of the show since many times in art, the artist's goal is for people to see the work rather than the creator. This is so the voters focus on the content of the art.
"A Character Named Alina"
An interview was conducted with an artist in the show to talk about her piece. The artist spoke about how finding her inspiration took an immense amount of time, but only took her around 5 hours to complete. Her piece (left), “A Character Named Alina'', shows a girl standing in front of a stained glass window, wearing a dress that seems to be falling apart.
As students perused the show, many shared that they connected most with the winning piece, by Julia Taylor, labelled “wings”.
The delivery of this show couldn't have been better, and all Blakelock can hope for the next exhibit is that more artists will be inspired to submit their work.
TAB would like to thank Mrs. MacKay, all the library volunteers, voters, and all the amazing artists who volunteered to show their work!
