Theatre & Stage

Term 1:

This year in Theatre & Stage we are doing the musical "Mean Girls".

TERM 1:

In the first term:

• We learned about the different roles that would be involved in producing the musical

• We brainstormed some musicals we could do, narrowing it down to either "Mean Girls" or "Into the Woods", and finally deciding on "Mean Girls"

• We prepared and did our auditions

• We started practicing a dance for the musical

I got the part of Gretchen (one of the "plastics") in the show which I am absolutely delighted with!

Term 2:

In term 2, we began learning our lines and started practicing the musical and developing our characters.

We also improved on our group dance.

We started learning all the songs, script etc.

This was enjoyable but a lot of work.

Term 3:

During lockdown, we had an online class on a Friday evening.

We :

• Practiced our lines

• Sang the songs

• Got feedback and improved

• Worked on building on our characters personality and actually becoming the character

When we came back to school we started working on the musical a lot more. We stayed back on Fridays and came in on some Saturdays.

We :

• Learned dances

• Practiced songs with the piano with harmony

• We ran through scenes

• We started getting costumes ready

Everything got going really well when we came back to school and we made a lot of progress in a few weeks.

The musical is scheduled for September 2021.

I've really enjoyed the last few weeks doing the musical so hopefully it goes ahead in September.
