Computers
Term 1:
In term one, we learned about Google Suite and used the different components of it with Mr. Hennessey. I found this useful because computers are part of our everyday lives now. It was fun to be able to create your own survey too.
Some of the things we looked at were:
Apps included in Google Suite
Structure of an Email
Creating a Survey
Analysing Survey responses
Using Mail Merge to create letters for a number of people
Here is a survey I created in class:
Term 2:
In term 2, we learned about computer programming with Ms. Cregan.
Some of the things we looked at were:
Algorithms (instruction)
Instructions for how to make a cup of tea (showing us how clear the instructions you give a computer need to be)
Creating an arcade game
Computer programmers of the past
It was fun to make my own arcade game and learn the basics of coding using the Microsoft Dreamspace Tutorial videos
Term 3:
In term 3, we learned about a few different things with Ms. Griffin.
While in lockdown we learned about:
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Coding a micro: bit using the Microsoft Dreamspace Tutorial videos
When we came back to school we:
Continued with the micro: bit
Did an online course with Canva (a design website)
I learned a lot from doing the Canva design course. Stuff that I will use everyday in relation to fonts, colours, alignment and how to make a design look well along with lots more. It was a very short, useful and worthwhile course in my opinion and it only took about 30 minutes with short 2 minute videos about each topic.
Here is a poster I made using Canva on the internet:
I also made an Instagram post for Irish Guide Dog Day using Canva:
Here is an example of coding we used to programme the micro bit. In this example, we were programming the micro bit attached to the polar bear to signal the ranger whenever the polar bear moves.

I found this website vey good. The "Graphic Design Basics" course we did was clear and to the point. I would recommend it to others. Here is the link to the website if you would like to try it out:
