Construction Studies

Term 2:

We studied Construction Studies with Mr. Hennessey in term 2.

We had to:

• Draw a floor plan of our house

• Design a floor plan for a house (unique in some way)

• Research methods of construction (cobbing, concrete blocks, wood cladding etc.)

When doing all of this we took into account:

• Path of the sun (aspect)

• Materials used

• Layout of rooms

• Lots more!

We also watched some episodes of "Grand Designs" where we got to see unique ways in which people deigned their houses. It was interesting. We also learned about applying for planning permission and land registry.

I probably won't do construction studies for leaving cert because I didn't do woodwork, metalwork or any subject like that for junior cert.

I'd say it would be a nice subject to do though, especially for people who are good with practical and visualising/ remembering diagrams and stuff.
