Grade 12 Graduating Students - Sample 4 Trades in 16 weeks

Trade Journey is a 16-week program that offers the ability to experience trades, build confidence, and enhance the skills necessary to enter these traditionally male-dominated fields. It was designed for women who like working with their hands and who already have some experience in construction, renovation, mining, or maintenance positions, as well as those who want to transition into a trades career.

Participants explore various trades through basic training and projects in order to decide which one fits best, along with a built-in fitness program to help build physical fitness and strength at the worksite. The program also provides Personal Protective Equipment and assists in getting all necessary safety tickets needed.

If you are interested, contact us at tradejourney@ywcasaskatoon.com, give us a call at (306) 986-2884 or send us a text at (306) 292-7984.

Looking for a summer job?

If you are currently completing Grade 11 or 12, looking for a summer job and are considering pursuing a career in the trades after high school, the Saskatchewan Youth Internship Program is for you! The internship starts on July 8, 2024 and ends on August 16, 2024. This program entails a six-week commitment, and therefore careful consideration should be taken before applying to the program. Some internships may be extended.

Your completed application form, including your resume should be sent to the SIEC office no later than Wednesday, May 1, 2024. If your application is successful, you will be contacted, and an interview will be arranged. After the interview, if you are offered a position, you will be required to complete the necessary safety training, which may include industry safety programs such as WHMIS, Safety Construction Orientation Training, Fall Safety Awareness, Food Safe and others if you currently do not have these courses. Applying to this program does not guarantee you a summer position, but the SYIP team will do their best to accommodate as many students as possible.

The SIEC will have a Youth Internship Coordinator along with job coaches to oversee the program and ensure the documents for apprenticeship are completed. These people will monitor your progress and will also act as supports for both you and your employer throughout the internship.
