Introduction:

From May 27 to May 31, I carried out, within the Erasmus + program, a "job shadowing" at the Liceo Etore Majorana de Scordia in Sicily (Italy).

During my stay in the mentioned town, I have had the opportunity to learn about the methodologies of the Majorana High School as well as the city and its surroundings, being received by the local authorities and assisted by my colleagues during my stay.

Below I will tell you about my experience, day by day, in this interesting project.

DAY 1: 27th of May 2024

Today, it is my first day at Liceo Majorana in Scordia in Sicily.  I'll tell you what the activities have been this morning:

First of all, I have to express my gratitude specially Tiziana, Samuelle and headmaster Ornella, their reception has been so warm that I have felt at home. We have a little meeting into Ornella`s office and it was the moment to give her a little present of our Hihg School.

Next, we made a visit to see the teaching facilities of the Liceo Majorana and immediately left for the Scordia town hall where I was received by the mayor of the city.

In the afternoon we went out to visit a small town near Scordia: Militello. Here you will find a wide catalog of baroque churches and the imposing ducal palace.

Day 2:

Today was a very intense day. In the morning I attended the simulation of the state tests for final year students. The exam consists of an oral part and a written part. In the first, the student randomly takes a photograph of a historical, technical or artistic event and has to develop an exposition relating history, literature, philosophy and scientific aspects related to the image and its time.

Immediately after eating, we began an excursion to Caltagirone, a town that stands out for its ceramic crafts and its rich history and traditions.

Day 3:

The task of the third day consisted of making a cultural visit to the city of Syracuse. This city was the main Greek colony in the western Mediterranean, its monumentality and cultural and artistic tradition make it one of the most touristic cities in Sicily.

As a special event we attended the performance of the tragedy Phaedra by Esquilo at evening. Many students from various high schools in eastern Sicily attend this event.

Day 4:

After yesterday's intense day, today was a calmer day.

I have attended a sports activity called Baskin at the Majorana High School. Its objective is the integration, through sport, of students with special learning needs. In this way, they are not kept away from activities that require high competitiveness, such as basketball; and through special rules, everyone participates and contributes to their team's score

Day 5:

Today, May 31, was my last day of work at the Liceo Majorana de Scordia.

I have attended two Spanish classes with the teacher Mónica and the Dominican reader Inma.

Next, the director Ornella presented me with the Erasmus + diploma and we had a farewell meal.

Conclusion:

My experience at the Liceo Majorana de Scordia has been very productive; for several reasons, the first was my improvement in spoken English, the second was to learn about various work methodologies in the educational field and the third was to have known the professionalism and affection of my contacts Tiziana and Samuele to whom I will always be grateful.
