Year 10 Advanced Mathematics is designed to prepare students for studying VCE Mathematical Methods and VCE Specialist Mathematics. It has a strong focus on algebraic approaches to problem solving across its areas of study:
Algebra - Including : Index Laws, Algebraic Fractions, Literal Equations
Coordinate Geometry and Linear Functions
Quadratics and Higher order polynomials
Functions - Including: Transformations, Exponentials and Logarithms
Statistics and Probability - Including: Conditional Probability, Standard Deviation and Linear Regressions
Measurement - Including: Trigonometry, Surface Area and Volume
Students are expected to be able to apply techniques, routines and processes involving rational and real arithmetic, algebraic manipulation, equation solving and graph sketching, with and without the use of technology, as applicable.
Define and explain key concepts from all topics, applying a range of related mathematical routines and procedures.
Apply mathematical processes in non-routine contexts and analyse and discuss these applications.
Select and appropriately use scientific calculators, spreadsheets and other computer facilities to develop ideas, produce results and carry out analysis in situations requiring mathematical problem solving and modelling.
