Advanced Algebra is an elective unit that will provide additional skills in algebra as a preparation for the study of VCE Mathematical Methods , but will also aid in the study of General Mathematics and Specialist Mathematics. The unit aims to build on previously developed skills in mathematics and to extend skills in a selection of the following specific areas: Matrices and vectors, Quadratic Functions, Cubic Functions, Binomial Theorem and Coordinate Geometry
Define and explain key concepts in polynomial functions, graphs and algebra, applying a range of related mathematical routines and procedures.
Apply mathematical processes in non-routine contexts and analyse and discuss these applications.
Select and appropriately use scientific calculators, spreadsheets and other computer facilities to develop ideas, produce results and carry out analysis in situations requiring mathematical problem solving and modelling.
