READY FOR LEARNING

Building an engaging learning environment



In order to maximise every student's ability to learn in a productive environment, the following procedures provide a guide for how Year 7, 8 and 9 teachers should be conducting entry and exits to classes. Consistency between teachers will provide greater certainty for students and be mutually reinforcing when properly carried out by all staff.


Entry to and Beginning of the Class


1. All Students to arrive at class with appropriate equipment before the second bell.

2. Students are to wait outside the classroom in an orderly fashion.

3. Students are to quietly enter the room when directed by staff and sit quietly in seat.

4. Staff and students are to check the condition of the room – that it is clean and orderly.

5. Students are to sit quietly and get ready to learn while staff member gives instructions, marks roll and checks uniform.


During Class


6. Staff are to write Learning Intention and Success Criteria relevant to the lesson on the board.

7. Students are to stay seated at all times unless the staff member gives permission to move.

8. Students are to put their hand up to ask questions or speak to the class.

9. Students are to listen to and follow instructions.

10. Students are to complete set tasks to the best of their ability.


Exiting the Class


11. Staff should allow time at the end of the lesson to pack up.

12. Staff and students are to check that the room is free of graffiti, rubbish, damage and that the whiteboard is clean and the windows are shut.

13. Students are to stand quietly behind their chair when the room is ready.

14. When the bell rings, the staff member will dismiss the class when ready. Students are to leave in an orderly manner. The door is to be locked.
