Student Management

Student movement around campus during class time

As of Monday 21 February, the following expectations will be set with regard to students being in class during class time.

We need to be clear that it is very important that, for the most part, students are in class during scheduled class time as this ensures that they are able to access learning as well as ensures their safety. By keeping students in class and reinforcing the need for students to be in class, we are also hoping to shift student behaviours around work avoidance such as not bringing their equipment to class in order to have time to access their lockers.

Expectations

  • Students will not be able to leave class at all without a pass to indicate where they are going. there are two types of passes:

    • library / IT passes (distributed by library)

    • toilet pass which each teacher will have one of and will be able to provide this to students.

  • Where a toilet pass is provided to a student, an SMS must be sent to the 'toilet phone' to name the student and room. This is for data collection and to let the supervising teacher know who is moving around the campus. The supervising teacher then will be able to ensure that any students who are on safety plans or otherwise, are not out of class at the same time.

  • Students do not need to wait for an escort but they will only be able to access the toilets near the canteen or they may present to the front office to use the sick bay toilets.

  • Students may still access bathrooms (changerooms and toilets) in the sports stadium and sports centre as required and as arranged with the PE teachers and teams.

  • Students are NOT to be allowed to go to their lockers. If they turn up to class without their equipment, they need to be provided with what they need to access the learning and this can include sharing resources with other students, or being provided with alternative resources by the teacher.

  • There will be a member of the leadership / student management team rostered on for each lesson of the day to monitor the 'toilet phone' and to check on student movement.

The only exception to this is those students who need to go to sick bay for treatment. Student will be able to access the sick bay as per usual and students being sent to sick bay for treatment should always be escorted by either another student or a staff member, if one is available.
