Acting Assistant Principal: Engagement, Inclusion and Equity

The role of Assistant Principal is quite complex and reactive to school needs. Assistant Principals report directly to the Principal and work collaboratively with the wider executive team (all principal team members and the school business manager). The role requires the management of various elements of school work and oversight of a number of teams. The role requires extensive people management skills, organisational skills and a strong commitment to equity and inclusion. Knowledge of inclusion policies and procedures is an advantage as is knowledge of facilities management and OHS.'Higher duties will be set for AP level 1. 

For this role, the required responsibilities will be allocated across the period of the position as described below:

Term 3 2024

The Acting Assistant Principal will be required to:

·         Work with the Principal team to identify, source, and organise systems and processes for the ongoing facilities and OHS inspections schedule and document these.

·         Work with the maintenance team to enact the inspections as outlined above.

·         Oversee the ‘Issue tracker’ system to ensure that all OHS and other issues are responded to in a timely fashion.

·         Review the current OHS processes and structures and ensure that these meet compliance requirements including reviewing the OHS calendar and re-establishing the OHS committee.

·         Attend executive meetings weekly

Term 4, 2024

The Acting Assistant Principal will be required to:

·         Continue with the above work

·         Oversee, support and guide the student management processes for Years 7 – 9

·         Oversee the Disability and Inclusion program. This involves booking and attending DIP meetings and supporting staff with the provision of feedback about classroom adjustments, chairing the DIP meetings, supporting the DI coordinator to book and run SSGs for Tier 2 and 3 students

·         Oversee and manage the development and review of IEPs for Tier 2 and 3 students

·         Ensure reporting process for Tier 2 and 3 students follows recommendations and is appropriate.

·         Chair Operations meetings and provide feedback in a timely way to support ongoing operations of school events

·         Oversee the IT technician and the provision of staff laptops – manage the laptop portal and rollout of new tranches of laptop updates.

SC 4 Leadership of staff and students

(i) A highly developed capacity to motivate staff, develop their talents and build an effective team.

(ii) A clear capacity to foster a learning environment that takes account of the individual needs of students and helps students to develop their special abilities and talents.

 

SC 5 Interpersonal and communication skills

(i) Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills in individual, small group and community contexts.

(ii) Exemplary values pertaining to personal qualities of objectivity, sensitivity and integrity.

(iii) An ability to work with parents and the community to develop a strong learning environment.


Disability and Inclusion Coordinator

The role of DI coordinator supports students identified as requiring additional support for learning to engage and thrive at the college. The DI Coordinator reports directly to the Assistant Principal Engagement, Equity and Inclusion. This role is mostly proactive, requiring sound people management and organisational skills.

A combination of time and increased range will be considered and worked through with the successful applicant. 

This role has the following responsibilities:

·         Manage the work of the Classroom Support team including the organisation of the CS supervision schedule, providing and receiving feedback from team members about the classroom and the adjustments being made for the many students receiving support.

·         Booking and running regular SSGs for Tier 2 and 3 students

·         Supporting the DIP process through collecting and organising the required documentation in collaboration with the AP Engagement, equity and inclusion.

·         Attending DIPs and supporting the AP with any required follow up.

·         Liaising with parents of Tier 2 and 3 students as necessary.

·         Oversee the development of student IEPs

Selection criteria

SC1 Demonstrated knowledge of Disability Inclusion policies, processes and procedures 

SC2 Relevant qualifications and experience in creating environments that promote physical, emotional, social, and intellectual wellbeing for all. 

SC3 Demonstrated experience identifying and analysing additional needs of students, particularly those from priority cohorts. 

SC4 Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively with members of the school community including staff, families, carers and students. 

SC5 Demonstrated experience leading highly effective teams and capacity to collaboratively work as part of the wider school team and community and abide by the college and Department values.
