Sharfaraz Noor

bio:

My name is Sharfaraz Noor, but since my name was too hard to say I have adopted the nickname of Shafy. I am a senior at Dunellen High School and have lived in Dunellen all my life. I has been participating tennis for past three years and plan to to my fourth this year. I seems like someone who spends most of his time sleeping, yet when I am not in school I enjoys the finer things in life, such as relaxing at the beach and walking around town with friends. Lately, I have gotten into the habit of reading random books that have a chance to peak my interest. However, my favorite book would have to be Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief. I loved the book so much that I wrote a book report on it. Nowadays, my favorite hobbies are playing video games, eating, and playing sports.

1,000 word short story

For the most part, Alexandria is the rich area of Metropolis. There are many high rises and corporate buildings. Alexandria is controlled by big businesses and rich people, so there is a lack of trees and natural areas. Although, there is one big park in the southeast corner of the district, named Park. There are many open fields, playgrounds, and lakes scattered throughout it. It didn't take long, however, for the greedy businessmen to ruin this lush green area. They constructed a towering nuclear power plant directly next to the park, creating a shadow that covers the park in shadows in the afternoon. The sewer system underneath the city holds many mysteries. Moss is sprouting from every moist pipe and structuring. Nuclear waste is dumped into the sewers almost every night, causing the creatures to have mutated and merge with other creatures down in the darkness they used to call home. The most common ‘organism’ is a rat like creature with the wings of a bat. These are everywhere because they are able reproduce at the speed of sound. To many people, this city seems like dump, but for me I call this my home.

I never had a name, that’s how should have stayed, but then she appeared and taught me to make a name for myself. She adopted me, yet she didn’t feel like a mother, she was more of a sister. On my sixteenth birthday I learned two things; the lady’s name was Amanda and that she had died in her sleep the night before. That was the day that I decided to go by the name Xavier, but I wouldn’t be able to keep this name for long. I was captured and was forced to become a human lab rat for rich business men looking for an edge over the competition. They said my features were almost perfect and exactly what I was looking for. My eyes are aqua green and I has thick, dark brown eyebrows, along with brown hair. Three years later, my brown hair turned blonde and grew to an outrageous length. My body became toned after all the experiments, that wasn’t the best “feature” given to me. I gained the ability to create electric currents from my hands to shock my anyone, while also being invincible to any form of electricity as well. I became master at martial arts and was a master at using a metal bow staff. On my nineteenth birthday, I was given set of clothes that I could wear instead of walking around in lab robes. I was given black, skinny jeans, a grey, slim fit v-neck and a black leather jacket. I was also given two things of my choice, I decided that they should be something that I would in enjoy. So, I asked for a phone and a gold chain that had the name Amanda.

Throughout my time spent there, I realized that I had no reason to stay under the control of my kidnappers. I was stronger than them and had nothing tying me to this place. I decided that I was going to escape on the night of my nineteenth birthday, and I plan to go through with that. After getting my gifts, and clothes I was sent to my insulated cell, however unbeknownst to them I had stolen the keys to get out of my cells from one of the guards. When the clock in my cell struck eleven, I put my plan into action, and made my way to the exit. I shocked any guard I came into contact with into submission, but I tried to keep my presence unknown to make my escape easier. Everything went to plan and I could see the exit, but there was somebody in front of the door.

“Xavier stop, they are only trying to help you,” the woman calmly stated.

“Oh yeah, and who the hell might you be,” I responded.

“You really don’t remember me, that kind of stings. Well, nothing I can do about that. I’m Luna, we grew up at the same orphanage,” she announced.

I stopped in my tracks, I thought about what she said and then an old memory popped into my head. It was her but younger, she was in a corner just staring at me. I was deep in thought, which she noticed and took advantage of. I was knocked onto my back, yet I felt no pain when I got up.

“You were like ten feet away, what the hell did you just do?” I asked.

“Xavier, did you really think that you were the only the only “special” one in this place. I mean, they gave you powers which means they can given them to other people,” She replied. “You're not special, so get over yourself.”

Hearing those words really set me off, it wasn’t because I thought she was wrong, but it was because she was right. As I dove deeper into my rage, electricity started to flow through and was starting to leak out of me. However, no matter what I did I couldn’t touch her, it was like she knew my every move before I even made them.

“Oh my god, this is kind of pathetic. Let me tell you a little secret, I can read minds and create things from my imagination. You’ll never be able to be me, so go back to yourself before you embarrass yourself,” Luna stated.

“Oh really, well I’d like to see you stop this,” I whispered. All of the electricity that I had been storing up, released in one blast which short circuited everything in the building.

“And, what did that accomplish? Oh, let me guess nothing!” she announced.

“Really you can’t tell, I guess you’re the idiot,” I replied. Smoke started to fill the building and explosions could be heard in the distance.

“This place runs on gas, and if I ignite it what happens,” I said.

“You didn’t, we’ll both die,” she frantically replied.

“Oh, but I did and I guess I’ll see you in hell,”

haikus

You see the sun rise

A new day is upon you

Pressure overwhelms

Everything surrounds

And leaving me with nothing

It feels so far away

If I take the fall

Am I a hero to you

Day and Night I’ll win

Let it slip away

Those dreams I have every night

I’ll just lose it all

Now grasping at it

But it feels so far away

Even if you're alone

I set my eyes up

Reaching for my destiny

I spread my wings out

Lie awake at night

With memories that haunt me

But this storm won’t last

I awoke to tears

Like a plane my dreams flew by

Tired eyes only stay

Cruel fate in motion

They told me I couldn't laugh

Well look who’s laughing

Can’t live with regret

Seeking out the lies I told

Live for tomorrow
