StEFANI PEREZ

bio:

My name is Stefani Perez. I’m 14 years old, but I'm turning 15 on October 13. I was born in Plainfield, and I moved to Dunellen when I was 5 years old. I was always a quiet kid while growing up. People say I’m very friendly and open. I love reading and writing; it’s really amazing to me to be able to create and make up stories about anything. I’m a freshman at Dunellen High School. I have a mom and dad and an older sister. My older sister is 26, and she is like my role model. When I grow up I want to be a psychologist and also have a degree in Business Communications. I’m inspired by many different artists and writers. I am really inspired by the rapper Logic; he fights for the equality for all humans beings, no matter who they are; everyone should be equal, and I live by that message.

a day that changed my life forever

A day that changed my life forever was when I first met my little cousin. His name is Ian Perez. He was about three years old and the shyest person I had ever seen. He has brown chocolate eyes with fluffy, wavy, curly hair; when I first met him, he was extremely skinny and quiet. I have always been the type of person who loves children and was just naturally attracted to taking care of others. When they brought him in, he turned his face away from me and didn’t want to look at me or my family. My mom, being the usual motherly type, was the first who Ian opened up to; I remember he hesitantly went into her arms, unsure about whether to pull back or not. All I remember was thinking how small he looked to me. He later opened up to my sister because she also radiated authority and command. Then…. he looked at me and gave me a small smile, acknowledging that he knew that I was watching him. I opened my arms and told him it was okay, and, once again, he pondered whether to leave the already familiar arms of my sister to the arms of yet another stranger, but he had faith and I saw that the moment he walked through the room. Ever since that day, Ian and I have grown fonder of each other everyday; he comes in the mornings to wake me up and I get him ready for preschool. My family usually takes him everywhere we go, and I watch shows and curl up in bed with; sometimes, we fall sleep together. He is like my little baby and he knows that. He changed my life by helping me learn that I can be responsible for myself and another person. Family isn’t just blood; love bonds you to someone and that type of bond can’t be broken.
