University of Wisconsin - La Crosse & Video Game Development Trade School
May 2022: My experience with the global academy began when I was able to participate in the PYLP program. From there, my mind was set on what I wanted to spend most of my time on at school. I felt the most productive while in my Global Academy classes and felt that I learned the most valuable information there. I was really challenged my senior year during COVID, but despite that I was able to set up interviews and develop networking skills to work on my capstone project. It was way out of my comfort zone, but I am so happy I was able to experience these things while in high school because it really set me up for success after graduation. I can say that it was definitely one of the best experiences I had at Huntley, and I had lots of fun researching alongside my peers.
Nowadays, I am finishing up my freshman year at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. I was on track to major in Computer Science, however, I am now taking an extended leave in order to directly pursue my dream career of becoming a video game developer. I am now enrolled in a trade school where I will receive a Software Development Certificate to go along with my Illinois Global Scholar Certificate. I can utilize my experience gained in the Global Academy to develop video games while taking global issues and cultures into perspective. I am also taking a trip to Europe this summer, where I will actively be aware and hold an understanding of my place in the world as an environmentally conscious human being. Personally, I am excited to see how European countries utilize public transportation and how they keep nature protected.

University of Oregon
April 2023: Things have been really good. I have just started my third trimester at university of Oregon and I love it here. I’m still using everything I learned through the academy as I am a Global Studies major and going through the academy has really helped my be prepared for a lot of my classes. It’s also been super helpful when it comes to the United Nations club that I am a part of here.
I hope the academy is still as amazing as it was last year and I hope it is growing into to become even better. I am still so grateful I got to be a part of it. I hope the capstone projects this year went smoothly (or as smoothly as they can).
