Air Pollution in Peru: Addressing the needs of Environmental Education

Raquel Salinas completed her Illinois Global Scholar project in the spring of 2021 during her senior year. Interested in environmental concerns, Raquel researched various issues and areas around the world to find the regions that had some of the greatest environmental impacts of pollution. This also interested Raquel as she learned more about the impact that the pollution has on children of Peru, and how it is normalized within the culture. Working with individuals from Peru, Raquel was able to gain a greater understanding of life in Peru and the impacts of air pollution on children. Raquel created a lesson plan for lessons to be carried out in classrooms that can increase awareness about the issues of air pollution so children can make a difference in their own communities.
