Requirements for Certificate or Transcript Designation
To Qualify for the Certificate of Completion or the Transcript Designation the Following Criteria Must Be Met:
Accepted into the Global Academy
Fulfill the requirements for either the Certificate or Transcript Designation
Put together an exit presentation and present it in the Spring of your Senior Year during your exit interview
Why should I earn a Certificate or Transcript Designation from the Global Academy?
The Transcript Designation is marked on your official HHS transcript and is a more official way to show your participation in the Global Academy including a specialization. Completion of the transcript will allow you to wear a Global Academy medal with the appropriate engravings at graduation.
The Certificate of Completion can be earned and still used to show your participation and completion of some of the requirements of the Global Academy. While this is not on your transcript, this is a way that you can still show your participation in the Global Academy even if you don't fulfill all the final requirements. Completion of the transcript will allow you to wear a Global Academy medal with the appropriate engravings at graduation.
The Illinois Global Scholar certification is also noted on the transcript when a student completes the Global Scholar Capstone course. This is earned independently from the Global Academy, but in order to receive the transcript designation, you must complete the Illinois Global Scholar project. You will also receive a medal for Illinois Global Scholar that you can wear at graduation.
Different Requirements for Certificate v. Transcript Designation
Major Distinction: To receive a Certificate of Completion you do NOT have to complete the Global Scholar Capstone course or project OR you do not complete courses within a Specialization - you will NOT receive Transcript designation as either Global Academy OR Illinois Global Scholar

Complete Application / Interview for academy
Completion of 2 of the 3 Globally Academy Focused Courses - Global Citizenship, Global Seminar, Global Scholar Capstone
Completion of 2 Required Foreign Language Courses or Certificate of Biliteracy
Completion of 1 Freshman Social Studies Globally-Focused Course: AP World History, AP Human Geography, Global Studies
Completion of total of 8 Globally Focused Courses (including above)
Completion of Service Learning within required Global Academy Courses (Min. of 3)
2 pts - Write for Rights (Cit. & Seminar)
1 pt - Food Insecurity Action Project (Seminar)
Completion of Global Collaboration within required Global Academy Courses (Min. of 3)
1 pt - Global Citizenship
1 pt - Global Seminar
3 pts - Global Scholar Capstone (w/ documentation of communication with experts)
Completion of additional Global Collaboration points:
Completion of Exit Interview: Sign up for time on Global Academy website
Sign up for time with Ms. Sharkey in March to go through requirements and presentation
NOTE: Successful completion of courses within the Global Academy as well as any courses for points in the Global Academy MUST include passing grades. Scores of F will not be accepted for completion.
Transcript Designation
Complete Application / Interview for academy
Completion of ALL 3 Required Global Academy Courses - Global Citizenship, Global Seminar, Global Scholar Capstone
Completion of 3 Required Foreign Language Courses or Certificate of Biliteracy:
Completion of 1 Freshman Social Studies Globally-Focused Course: AP World History, AP Human Geography, Global Studies
Completion of 2 additional courses within designated specialization. 1 must be globally focused.
