impact of covid-19 on girls' education: storytelling & the lives of girls in kenya

Angelica Favila completed her Global Scholar Capstone project during the spring of 2021 during her junior year. Since she was a freshman in Global Citizenship, Angie was interested in the impact of girls' education throughout the world after watching the film "Girl Rising." In her Capstone project, Angie became interested in the impact of COVID-19 on the education of girls throughout the world eventually looking more closely at Kenya. Angie was able to work with the co-director of the Girl Rising Global Education Fund and then one of the Girl Rising team who works with girls in Kenya. Collaborating with Debbie in Kenya, Angie received stories from various girls about their lives, which she then animated into a short film that shows the impact of COVID on each of their lives. Angie finished up her project by creating a fundraiser that would go to girls' schools in Kenya and by creating the Women's Empowerment Leadership League club at Huntley High School to continue her impact.
