Gender Violence and Discrimination:     
Addressing Gender Inequality for Young Women in South Africa

Presley Blake completed her Global Capstone Scholar project in the spring of 2021 during her junior year.  Her interest in this topic was inspired by a friend from South Africa who participated in multiple protests in the summer of 2020 about women's rights concerns in South Africa. Through her research was able to determine the progress made in many areas as far as gender issues in South Africa, and see the gap in the participation of women in the local governments. Working with individuals in South Africa, Presley created and has distributed a series of images that can be shared on social media that get information out about participating in local government, registering to vote, etc. in order to encourage change through active participation in the government.
